What is a Translation Tee?

A Translation Tee is a shirt for babies and toddlers, featuring fun and bold graphics of a simple object on the front. If your little ones mispronounce a word, just love to say a word over and over, or just think something is COOL, that ‘temporary language’ gets featured on a very special keepsake shirt.

Note: Translation Tees are printed using a commercial heat transfer process, not a home made iron-on transfer! Our designs cannot be silk-screened, as each shirt is customized, and the silk-screening process is too cost prohibitive for one-off designs. The heat transfers and inks are the highest quality, and made to last in the wash.

Please keep in mind that we design shirts based on the premise that they generally feature simple objects (i.e. ‘apple’, ‘bottle’, ‘crib’ etc.), rather than abstract or busy concepts (i.e. ‘outside’, ‘up’, ‘down’, ‘the whole family’ etc.). What the shirts look like

Translation Tees are bright white, with black or pink accent trim on the neck and sleeves—often called “Ringer Tees.” They come in both short or long sleeves. We use a sleek black, bold typeface to help our little ones shout out to the world! Tranlsation Tees are designed for boys and girls alike.

Shirt quality

We searched far and wide, and nothing comes close to the quality of our 100% cotton shirts. These fabrics are the softest, finest and most durable we know of. They are preshrunk and are a rare find. The high yarn count and Interlock weave provides durability and ultra softness. The ultra high-quality interlock fabric will stretch 1/2" to 1"—so, there is plenty of room to grow into with each size.

For those of you who REALLY love details, we use Interlock Fabric: Preshrunk, 40/Single Super Soft, 100% Ring Spun Super Combed Cotton, Fine Interlock Weight: 6.0 - 6.5 oz/sq yard.

Short sleeve: $30 U.S.
Long sleeve: $34 U.S.
(plus applicable taxes and shipping).

How long to make your shirt

If you pick an image from our gallery, we make every effort to ship the shirt out within 2-3 business days. For Special Requests shirts, there are a few more variables involved. Once you have emailed us with the go-ahead, we try our best to ship the shirt out within 5-7 business days. In short, we know you want them NOW, so we make them as fast as a small company possibly can.

How to order your Translation Tee

Visit our Gallery, and click on any alphabetically arranged thumbnail image to view a larger detailed image. If you see an object you like, click on the large photo, which will take you to the shopping cart. If you don't find what you are looking for in the Gallery, go to Special Requests, and submit your idea to us.

Special Requests

If you have already visited our Gallery and haven't found the object you would like on your Translation Tee, go to Special Requests, and fill out some brief information. After reviewing your request, we will email you back A.S.A.P. to see if we can turn your request into reality. Naturally, we make every effort to accommodate special requests. Please keep in mind that Translation Tees generally feature simple objects (i.e. ‘apple’, ‘bottle’, ‘crib’ etc.), rather than abstract or busy concepts (i.e. ‘outside’, ‘windy’, ‘up’, ‘down’, ‘the whole family’ etc.).

Once we have worked on your special request, we will email you a sample for your approval. Note: minor revisions after you see the sample are to be expected. In short, we do our best to please you, but obviously we can't afford major revisions and multiple go-rounds for Special Requests. Fortunately, we have a track–record of exceeding customer expectations and feel you are in great hands!

Translation Tee Tips

• Keep it simple—choose a single object that you think will look striking on your shirt. Some objects, like an airplane, might look more interesting than a spoon. But, all that really matters is that you capture the words your little ones love to say. Besides, we make even a spoon look pretty cool!
• Keep it short—try and keep the child's words brief. For example, if your child says, "Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma" you might consider just, "Ma-ma" for your text. After all, those little chests can only display so much information!
• Choose real objects, not abstract concepts—please keep in mind that we design shirts based on the premise that they generally feature simple objects (i.e. ‘apple’, ‘bottle’, ‘crib’ etc.), rather than abstract or busy concepts (i.e. ‘outside’, ‘windy’, ‘up’, ‘down’, ‘the whole family’ etc.).
• Personalize it—if you want to add your child's name and age on the shirt, simply enter that information in the “COMMENTS” box when ordering. Additionally, if you just want an object with no text on the shirt, let us know in the “COMMENTS” box for Special Requests, or enter “NONE” on the Checkout page for shirts in our Gallery. Naturally, if your kid loves to say a word correctly, e.g. “apple”, we will feature the correct spelling with the design and no line of “translation ” text will be included. Just let us know what you want, and we'll make it happen!
• We cannot recreate copyrighted material (i.e. characters from Disney, Pixar etc).

Washing Instructions

• Turn the shirt inside-out
• Machine wash cold
• Do not use detergent with bleach
• Remove the shirt immediately after washing
• Tumble dry low
• Do not iron directly on the artwork.

Shipping Options

We use USPS Priority Mail®. This is the most cost-effective shipping solution we can offer to keep expenses down for you. We do not mark up the shipping costs, or charge any handling fees. For Domestic U.S. orders, your shirt usually arrives in 2-3 days after shipping. Current prices are generally under $5.00 (U.S.).

International Shipping

Yes, we ship Internationally. We use USPS Priority Mail® International Flat-Rate Envelope. This is the most cost-effective shipping solution we can offer to keep costs down for our International customers. We do not mark up the shipping costs, or charge any handling fees. Current prices are usually under $10.00 (U.S.) for shipments to Mexico and Canada. For all other destinations, the price is generally under $12.00 (U.S.).

Return Policy

Translation Tees orders are made-to-order, so each shirt is cutomized by you. Therefore, we will not accept a return unless the order is defective, damaged in shipping, or the wrong item(s) is received.

We cannot accept returns based on size or color discrepancies arising from viewing the item(s) on this website.

All orders are carefully examined by our production team to ensure that item sizes and quantities are accurate. All items are also examined for defects prior to shipping. Temporary Language will not accept a returned order that has been washed or worn.

Our goal is your total satisfaction. If there is a problem with your order, please contact us at orders@temporarylanguage.com or call (415) 891-8884 within 72 hours of receiving your order. Please do not send items back to us without getting a Return Authorization number from us first. Items will not be accepted for return if a Return Authorization is not issued within two weeks of receipt.
